What I learned while jogging today

Today I took my 4ish mile jog between classes. I slayed the anti-mother with the help of Norma Jean. As I was on my merry way, I was reminded of one part of the anti-mother’s nature.

For those of you that arent up on your norma jean records, i will attempt to explain what exactly the anti-mother is. Essentially, it represents anything and everything that appears nourishing, whole or beneficial but is ultimately deceptive.

norma jean wishes to kill that part of the human life. For some songs the anti-mother is our own selfish flesh. For others it is the focus on what is wrong instead of right. You could call this legalism. Avoiding, not abiding.

So im jogging, right? right. My course is the sidewalks in Dallas’ Swiss Avenue Historic district. Usually, dogs are not a problem. However, as i was about halfway home i was met by two puny chihuahuas. And yes, they were puny.

I ran past them  without paying much attention to them. Then they began to chase me. I ran a little faster but felt no real threat. But then they just got annoying. I dont think they would have bitten me and i doubt that would have hurt. Either way, they werent going to give up. I thought, “this would be a shame if they followed me all of the way back to my place.” Some kid would miss his puppy or some mom would miss her TV watching partner. So I decided to chase them away. Maybe not so much a chase. It was more like a balk. And they were gone. No problem.

Then i got to thinking about how true that is of the anit-mother. Granted some things we battle against are deep, daily struggles. But sometimes the temptations we face are dissolved as easy as my mid-afternoon chihuahua threat.

Sometimes all we have to do is turn and face the things we know dont fit in the Kingdom Jesus Christ established. Some forms of darkness or shadow are absolved with a simple flashlight.

So, hear from me that if you stand firm, the Lord will provide victory over the lion who seeks to steal, kill and destroy. there is victory in Jesus.
